Online Marketing
helps Business

Starting a new business can
be a very stressful time for anyone, however there are certain
things that you can do to make it much easier. Everything has a
beginning, and even that huge multi-national organisation must
have started from somewhere. A new business has to find ways to
make its mark on the world and get to a point where people are
aware of its existence. This process of promotion falls under
the title of marketing, and with a little helping hand from the
technology or the Internet it is more accessible than ever
before.
Online
marketing can be the ideal tool that some
business start-ups are looking for to give them that much
needed head start over their competitors. Internet marketing
comes in all forms and can cost you anything from millions
of dollars to being absolutely free; it all depends on what
you do and how much of it you are capable of doing yourself.
A start-up company will generally be undergoing a product
development phase together with market research and product
promotion. An organisation can save a lot of time and money
by using the Internet to research their market.
There are many differences
between traditional marketing practices and Internet marketing
practices, and a lot of them have to do with the aspect of
'targeting'. Search engine marketing allows a company
to appeal to an individual within a certain context, by
advertising on certain keywords or specific subject matters.
Traditional or offline marketing campaigns normally put a
lot of time and money into trying to market to a specific
group of people, within a digital environment it is just
much easier to control. There is also the issue of marketing
speed and its relationship to scales of influence. If you
can get your message in the right place online you can
appeal to a huge amount of people with relative ease, not
just the local people in your area who may or may not be
looking at your billboard or reading your magazine
advertisement.
Another advantage that is
especially relevant for a start-up business is cost. Internet
marketing is relatively inexpensive when it is compared to the
ratio of influence over a targeted market; much less expensive
than most traditional marketing endeavors, and with none of the
limitations of geographical boundaries. Another big advantage
for a company in the research phase of a marketing campaign is
the ease and efficient of receiving statistical data from
online ventures. A lot of this information can even be accessed
in real time, allowing a business a previously unheard of level
of control.
There are some limitations
when it comes to an online marketing strategy however,
especially with certain products. Firstly, your target audience
needs to be online in the first place in order to even be
targeted by you. Secondly, there is no technology (at least not
yet) that allows a potential customer to smell, touch or taste
your product and this may be a limitation with certain
products.
All in all though, Internet
marketing should be a crucial part of any start-up business'
overall marketing strategy. It is relatively inexpensive,
potentially huge in scope and allows a business to keep a track
of their own efforts and the trends of their target
market.
